The Zika Virus may cause a host of brain problems in adults. One of them is termed ADEM and it attacks the CNS. That would be the brain and the spinal cord.
It has also been linked to the Guillain Barre syndrome. However, this disorder affects the nerves outside the CNS.
Zika also causes microcephaly in which the babies born to infected mothers have small skulls and later on encounter developmental difficulties.
ADEM meanwhile causes swelling of the brain and spinal cord. Its symptoms include numbness, weakness, poor eyesight and balance and MS-like issues. Further research may prove beneficial in case of ADEM.
